Brrr and stuff

Last night Mrs Bobster cooked up a batch of muffins for Cup Cake Day at school today (yet another fund raising event), and much to my daughter's chagrin she had to buy one of her own muffins - the very ones she took to school! OK, so they were only a quarter each, but she was appalled at the audacity of the school.

Anyway, the Canadian winter seems to be getting started this week as is my first experience of it. We had a high of -6 C (21 F) and a low of -15 C (8 F) today with more to follow. I know that's mild by comparison with what's to come, but it's cold compared to the UK. I took the opportunity to do donuts in my truck in the car park at the supermarket last night, seeing as Mrs Bobster wasn't with me (she hates me doing that!). Of course snow and ice make it much easier.

We had our first winter storm of the season in Toronto today. -5, freezing rain followed by 5cm of snow.

Not much, but a good sample of what is to come.

Coming from a country that has a feeble, half-arsed winter I'm loving all of this! I'm hoping for my first "proper" white Christmas.

Yeah, that's not even bad by Chicago standards, let alone Canadian!

Hey, Bobster, Dilf and I might be traveling to London between Christmas and New Years -- any suggestions? Or is your suggestion "pick another city?"

It's turned a bit colder since I posted. Yesterday we had a high of -16 Celsius and a low of -22. That's 3 and -8 degrees Fahrenheit in old money.

As far as a trip to Blighty goes London has lots of great places to go, but it is always crowded and expensive, and most importantly I don't think it's indicative of the rest of the country.

I would highly recommend Bath in the West Country. It's absolutely lovely, but good hotels are pricey. You are very close to Wells (where Hot Fuzz was filmed) and Cheddar (where the cheese comes from). From Bath you can also get to the Cotswolds which is very pretty too. Boughton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold, Chipping Norton. I'd also recommend Oxford and Cambridge. Gorgeous towns with lots to see and do.

Aww, Im getting homesick now. :o(

That's what I was looking for, thanks.

The big cities so often don't give a feel for the real country, and even when they do, it's the neighborhoods and not the big business/entertainment districts the guide books send you to all the time.

Plus, being a Jane Austen fan, Bath has its own special allure.

Thanks again, Bobster. Even though it looks like this trip won't happen, another might.

A Jane Austen fan... what a turn on. Come on baby, I might only be three-and-twenty but I'm a man, show my those ancles.

Scamps and ankle flashing? That's the kind of classy smut I like on my blog.
